Nous vous invitons à goûter la boisson magique, rafraîchissante et encore bon marché "chai". Selon la légende, le thé a été découvert en Inde. Aujourd'hui ce pays est le producteur le plus important de thé. Il existe en Inde une grande diversité de thés, plantés à des hauteurs différentes. Vous visiterez les plantations, en apprendrez le rituel de préparation et dégusterez plusieurs variétés de cette boisson. Ce circuit vous mènera jusqu‘au Bhoutan, ou « Druk Yul » - le royaume du « Dragon Tonitruant », nommé ainsi par les paysans. Dans cette région de bouddhisme fervent assez peu fréquentée par les touristes, l’accueil est chaleureux et authentique.

Une grande soif d’aventure a amené cette grande exploratrice, écrivain et orientaliste française à parcourir le sous contient indien et le Tibet. Grâce à un héritage légué par sa marraine elle part, à seulement 22 ans, parcourir l’Inde pendant plus d’un an, un premier voyage initiatique qu’elle n’oubliera jamais tellement elle est fascinée par la magie de ce pays. Elle n’a qu’une idée en tête : repartir pour l’Asie et atteindre le Tibet, mais avant cela elle fait une escale en Afrique du Nord. C’est en Tunisie qu’elle rencontre son futur mari, Philippe Néel. En 1912, elle repart pour le Sikkim et en 1914, elle rencontre Aphur Yondgen qui devient son fils adoptif. A force de vouloir entrer au Tibet, et après avoir si longuement porté la robe aurore en Inde, couleur du détachement, elle est expulsée du Sikkim en 1916. Elle s’installe alors à Dignes, un Himalaya pour Lilliputiens comme elle se plaisait à le dire aux journalistes. Mais en 1917’elle repart pour l’Asie, traverse la Chine et atteint enfin Lhassa, ce qui la rend célèbre. Elle joue le rôle de la vieille mère effacée et Yongden marchande. Pendant 2 mois, elle vit à Lhassa mais son « excès de propreté» - elle se lave tous les matins- attise la curiosité de ses voisins qui en informent les autorités! C’est alors le retour en France… Elle poursuit quelques périples et surtout, écrit énormément. Les cendres de l’exploratrice et de son fils adoptif sont immergées dans le Gange à Bénarès le 18 février 1973.

LOCATE HAUZ KHAS VILLAGE

Imagine yourself in an autorickshaw with the nonchalent driver sitting with one leg up on the drivers seat and chewing pan and chugging along Aurobindo marg with his meter not working as usual. Menacing looking Delhi Metro cranes almost falling on your head have vanished now thankfully but then the dreaded question. Yeh hoj kaj bilej hain kahan???? If his meter is working by a chance in a million he would continue driving on till you see the wonderful desert in Jaiselemer!!! Otherwise here are some tips If you are coming in from the IIT flyover side towards Aurobindo marg then turn left at the corner of Aurobindo Market and drive straight in for atleast a kilometre. If you are coming from AIIMS towards IIT then at Aurobindo traffic signal take a U turn and then left.If you are coming from Nehru Place,Saket,Malaviya Nagar ( turn left at ShahpurJat) or turn right if coming from Defence colony,Sirifort in front of the the Hauz Khas Police station road and drive towards Aurobindo market.
Small advise ... unless you are carrying all your "kitchen ka bartan" or your kitchen sink stop at the parking barricade outside the village and walk the last few hundred feet.Its good for health and ease our parking woes. Try not to curse him loudly and part with some extra money which the autorickshaw driver who would have already conned you in the last half kilometre to this wonderful village. PARKING IN HAUZ KHAS VILLAGE FOR RS 10

Ever wondered why parking a car can be such a painful rigmarole anywhere in Delhi??? Inspite of getting a new parking place in the village for the last two years problems of trafiic jams in this miniscule village is becoming a daily affair . Why! Kyon? kyon kyon ?? Cant they read "Authorised Parking " ??? and turn left.
Many of my fellow Delhiwallahs believe their soles of the feet should not as far as possible touch this earth including their children who study in posh schools. They could well be driving a 65 lakh plus car but cannot part with 10 Rupees. They could be slogging for hours at the Powerhouse gym but cannot walk the last 100 feet from their car to the gym. There are boutique owners and their clients who do "lakhon ka dhanda" but dare not ask them to park at the right place. Every new and esteemed guest of the village firstly needs to be firstly given directions to Hauzkhas village as though its new archeological discovery and then they need to be told how and where to park and part with precious Rs 10/-!!!!! Important notice: Beautiful women with snazzy jalopies can come write here to my office have a coffee and collect 10 rupees but please park where you are supposed to.

Deer Park

An ornithologist's delight, the Deer Park is easily reachable from Hauz Khas Village, Safdarjang Enclave and from the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association's courts. The park was developed recognizing the need for an open green area near the urban settlements of this part of the capital. Beautifully landscaped with shady trees, lush grasses and a water body, the park serves the purpose of its conception very well providing a peaceful green space for nature walks to its many visitors. The main attractions of the park are the innocent-looking spotted deer, and attractive peacocks with their lovely feathers, cute rabbits and guinea pigs, apart from a rich variety of bird life found around the small pond. An ideal family picnic spot, the park has an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, which attracts a number of visitors throughout the year. With a special play area for children, Deer Park is definitely a good venue to spend your time with your near and dear ones in picturesque surroundings.

The latest buzz in town is once again with Hauz Khas Village - Delhi 's
Urban Village No. 1 and getting to be foodie's secret haunt

Thanks to Kalmadi his Bistro will not open in a hurry! not to worry.
Hauz Khas Village's latest restaurant is Bagels with some fine sandwiches and Coffee. Or else Kunzum travel cafe for some real cofee on donation basis and enjoy the photographs! good idea
The Living Room Cafe & Kitchen is truly one of Delhis most affordable Mediterranean eatery with good music and booze . I believe the owner is starting another one. Good going buddy!!
Gun Powder Restaurant woith easily one of the best views in Delhi.for good old South Indian Non Vegetarian food. Place needed a bit of sprucing up the last time i was there. Also getting a little pricey!!!
Naivedyam doing brisk business for years with excellent south Indian Vegetarian fare.
Park Balluchi going strong with its Fontier non veg food under its foliage and ofcourse alcohol too.

My encounter with Hauz Khas Village first came about while pursuing my Masters in JNU in the mid-eighties on a frugal stipend . Descending upon Hauz Khas Village in our ramshackled motorbikes and famished looking for some food we found it had an unusual flavour compared to the more earthy villages we were used to like like Munirka and Mehrauli. The entrance to the village had long lines of smart cars warned us that it would be exhorbitant. Someone had quite aptly described it ""Hauz Khas Village preferred mode of locomotion is designer bullock cart, raising designer dust, causing designer dislocation of spine on encountering designer pothole!!!

Getting off our bikes we soon discovered this was also the only other place where one could ski on fresh buffalo dung! Things changed over the years. Even after so many years of ups and downs , a much improved parking lot and steet lighting most visitors cannot still get a taxi or an autorickshaw driver to come here without a minor scuffle. The great confusion about 'hoj kaj bilej' and 'hoj kaj markit' has still not been resolved. Then ofcourse the Metro construction on Aurobindo Marg sems to just go on and not to forget perrennial Delhi problems like the road leading to the Village continues to be " watering alley ".However cows have lately decided not to hold council in the middle of the street.

On the brighter side one of New Delhi's most fabulous patches of greenery surrounds Hauz Khas Village , a nice walkaway around a lake and some impressive monuments dot the region.Adjacent to the crowed lanes of the village another world thrives. Some very docile spotted deer roamed around quite abundantly in this lung of South Delhi being blessed with good vegetation and water bodies was a haven for the winged and feathered species ! TheIsland on the lake looks like a good breeding spot for waterbirds.

Many years and adventures later i did not percieve that in 2003 i would open my own office and bed & breakfast here in the back yards of the city of The Slave Dynasty.

Thankfully not too much designer hype but still very bohemian and good clothes , shawls, some decent food, gifts, jewelry, leather, art galleries, travel agencies, fashion institutes, advertising agencies, event managers but more importantly its quite quiet and laid back. Its quite stylish and has got some real wacky names and unlike a standard DDA shopping market with its Geekay store , Aarkay Studio , TeeVee Repair shop and Beekay chemist. We could survive without that but hopefully a couple more of "Peekay" waterholes facing the lake would suffice.

All in all its nice to be part of Hauz Khas village after the last two decades of rumble and tumble.Please visit and call me if you need directions.

The idea is to let people from all over the world know why they should visit the place and what to look for in Hauz Khas Village. There are very few small and compact markets in the world which can boast of 13th century monuments, a lake, an urban forest and sprawling gardens surrounding it. For those who are unable to come all the way the site also has a free online store for buyers and sellers who are essentially based in the village or who are doing business with vendors in the village. Our endeavor is to highlight the uniqueness of Hauz Khas village and take it to its rightful customers by way of setting up space on the site for people to showcase their products and services by way listing on our site or periodic advertising and banners.
